WHEN IS A BANANA NOT A BANANA?

WHEN IT'S A PIECE OF ART!

THE OTHER ANSWER IS:

when it has been eaten by a performance artist called Datuna! (He should stick to eating da tuna!)

But seriously, a banana was taped to a wall in a Florida gallery and was eventually sold for a small fortune! The banana, on show at Art Basel in Miami, Florida, was actually valued at $120,000 and sold for as much.

Artist Maurizio Cattelan’s piece - a banana duct-taped to a wall called “Comedian” - sadly ended up in a visiting performance artist's stomach. Datuna was name of the culprit and he said of his actions that they were not vandalism and he does not regret his snack!

Datuna joined the crowd who were taking selfies with the banana on Saturday and then he pulled off the tape and ate the banana in a video which went viral.

He then said that the artwork tasted good and said that he absolutely was not sorry.

Representatives of Art Basel were apparently put out, but did not comment. The identity of the buyer was never disclosed by the gallery. But one obvious problem with his purchase is that he couldn't sell it on, even if it survived, as it would perish within days. So investors beware of fruit duct-taped to the walls of galleries.

However, the creator of the piece also had a mishap with another bit of art he created. Cattelan had previously made an 18-carat gold toilet, which the Guggenheim Museum offered to lend to U.S. President Donald Trump in 2018. It was just a bit of a stinker that the $5 million toilet was stolen from Britain’s Blenheim Palace in September.
